Luther Seminary's 'Reproductive Freedom' Article Warns Prolife Responses Will Be Deleted

5/13/2022

The Luther Seminary student newspaper published a proabortion article highlighting a letter which instructs "Faith Communities in Working for Reproductive Freedom." (read here)

Luther Seminary is a institution that trains and teaches people who are seeking to become pastors in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

On the Luther Seminary "announcements" page is an announcement about the reproductive freedom article and the corresponding letter (screenshot below). That announcement contains this statement:

"Special Reminder: Your classmate’s bodies are not topics of theological debate. The comment section of this post will be a place to share your learning. It is not a place to express anti-abortion sentiment. Any comment that breaks this boundary will be deleted."

Prolife comments are not allowed.

In the letter that Luther Seminary's student newspaper is promoting is this statement:

"it is important to recognize that the opposition to abortion access has always been about a lot more than abortion. It is about enforcing racism and white supremacy, patriarchy, and ruling class power."

You can read the letter here.

The ELCA's Only Position on Homosexuality

11/28/2016

ELCA schools love to shout their support for homosexuality. And notice that none declare they are proponents of traditional marriage and hold to Scripture's view that homosexuality is a sin.

If the only position you hear from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and all the subsidiaries is in favor of homosexuality and gay marriage one has to come to the conclusion that that is what they stand for. They are not neutral on the subject and those members that disagree with homosexuality are not represented in the leadership.

The ELCA's Masculine Deity Word Evasion

1/11/2016

God Pause devotions are daily reflections sent out by Luther Seminary, a school of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As most of you know, the ELCA is notorious for avoiding the use of masculine words for God. The God Pause devotion for January 8, 2016, gives us another painful example of their masculine deity word evasion.

“There, and in so many other places around the world, God calls us into deeper relationship with God through God's son as God declares to each of us how special we are as God's children, now prepared and sent to participate in ministry with God.” (see here)

See more examples of the ELCA's extreme use of gender neutral language for God here.

People Change

10/20/2015

People change. Over the last 14 years support for same-sex marriage in America has increased by 20%. (see here)  When I went to Wartburg Theological Seminary (ELCA) there were a few Bible-believing, orthodox/conservative students that I could look to for support. Today I came across one of those students (now an ELCA pastor) pictured on the ReconcilingWorks website along with an article saying that his church is now a Reconciling in Christ congregation.

"ReconcilingWorks: Lutherans for Full Participation" is an organization that "advocates for the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Lutherans in all aspects of the life of their Church and congregations." (see here) And his church has now become a congregation that "welcome and affirm people of...every sexual orientation and gender identity" (see here)

Americans view on gay marriage changed, for the most part, because of the decline in Biblical belief and the normalization of homosexuality brought into our homes through the entertainment we watch.

If you are not reading your Bible and you study or sit under the leadership of liberal teachers, pastors and bishops who support homosexuality (and other liberal theological positions) you are in danger of compromising your Biblical beliefs and conforming to their position.

Elca Celebrates Sin

7/14/2015

Last month the United States Supreme Court ruled that there is a federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage. Here is how many leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America responded.

The ELCA's Bishop Robert Alan Rimbo of the Metropolitan New York says of the recent Supreme Court decision making gay marriage legal in the United States, "in the spirit of Jesus, we applaud the court’s decision. We will continue to embrace all of God’s children as they seek to have their loving relationships blessed by people of good faith." (readhere)

It's a new day.

ELCA Seminary No Longer Requires Bible Proficiency Exam

10/25/2010

Luther Seminary is an ELCA school which educates over 1/3 of all future ELCA pastors.  Recently the school decided it will no longer require their students to take the Bible Proficiency Exam (BPE).

Luther Seminary posted this statement on their website, "As of July 1, 2010, the BPE will no longer be required of students who are entering Luther Seminary.  It will also be removed from the list of non-degree requirements for current Luther Seminary students.  BPE holds on current student records will be removed by the Registrar."

Students who had holds placed on them because of failure to take or pass the exam, are now free to get their Master of Divinity degree.

Rev. Jamie Strickler, a student at Luther Seminary was told that the BPE is "
not important to a theological education."  Rev. Strickler went on to say,  "(s)tudents were once required to score an 80% or higher after their first year. If this isn't an example of the ELCA's view of scripture I don't know what is."

"Then he (Joshua) took a large stone and set it up there under the oak near the holy place of the LORD.

'See!' he said to all the people. 'This stone will be a witness against us. It has heard all the words the LORD has said to us. It will be a witness against you if you are untrue to your God.'
