Heretical Pastor Rises in ELCA Leadership

8/29/2020

Picture
ELCA pastor Lura N. Groen has been highlighted on Exposing the ELCA many times. She is one of the most radical and heretical ELCA pastors I have come across. (See here and below for a number of things she has been saying. Some of it is blasphemous and vile.)

With that said, Pastor Lura N. Groen has been endorsed and placed into postions of influence and leadership by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

  • Last year, Rev. Groen was "elected to the Discipline Committee" at the 2019 Delaware-Maryland Synod (See page 2 here).

  • Delaware-Maryland Synod (ELCA) Bishop Bill Gohl is very familiar with Rev. Groen saying, "Pastor Lura Groen, with whom I belong to a weekly pericope Bible study group and who I know to be a (hard) truth-teller..." (See here).

  • Rev. Groen was a guest speaker, teaching a class at an ELCA seminary.

  • She was even on a panel discussion with the ELCA's Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton as you can see in the picture above.

Below are some writings and social media content from Rev. Groen. Sorry for the shocking and odious content.  How can the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America leadership allow someone, who speaks and believes as this pastor does, to rise in their leadership ranks?  How can they allow Rev. Groen and many ELCA pastors like her, to mock the One True God?

The ELCA is culpable and responsible for this.  They allow it and give it a platform in their midst.

The true God of Scripture is not the God the ELCA serves. The Holy Spirit does not dwell in it.

Continuing from Rev. Lura N. Groen's article posted above "I Hope You Have Only Good Sex" (see the complete article here), she writes, "This is, for me, an open expression of a deeply faith based sexual ethic. My Christian way of saying the same thing is to hope that each of you has sex in way, and only in a way, that is set free to love God, self, and neighbor. And that every time you have sex you respect the image of God in yourself and in your partner(s). That you treat yourself and every other body involved as holy, a temple, beloved by God, created beautifully, fearsomely and awesomely made."

Some of Rev. Groen's comments get even worse:

Jesus was Queer, anti-establishment, pro-heaux, and rejected heteronormative relationship models. https://t.co/L3er24ndL3

God is fat. And She twerks marvelously.

And you know what? You don’t fucking know if She has diabetes. And it’s none of your fucking business. She’s glorious either way.

In the next post Rev. Lura Groen shared an article titled "What Promiscuity Taught Me About God's Love." The article was from QueerTheology.com.

I honestly believe it’s our shame that has perverted our sexuality. Shame that had been too often taught by the church.

Trying to control the gender and sexuality God has given people twists it into terrible things.

— Lura Groen (@lura_groen) April 29, 2020

I don’t know who needs to hear this* but:

Feeling your anger can be fucking revolutionary.

— Lura Groen (@lura_groen) July 26, 2019

Sometimes I say fuck, but usually only when I’m talking about holiness, so now you’re prepared.

Unpopular opinion: Divorce can be a really good thing, and more people should probably get them. https://t.co/PHyEVaPGNd

Now I’m Queer. Not just LGBT, as in let’s expand heteronormative relationship structures to same sex people, but Queer, as in, fuck heteronormative relationship structures, because they’re based in capitalism and white supremacy.

The Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Said What?

5/21/2013

The ELCA is in full communion with the Episcopal Church.

Take a few minutes to read what Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori, said in a recent sermon.  Here is a report about the presiding bishop's message, and here is the complete sermon.

How about a sneak peak? The Episcopal Church's Presiding Bishop instructed:
  • Based on Acts 16, Paul was blind to what God was doing when he exorcised the demon from a slave girl.
  • Paul deprives the demonically possessed slave girl "of her gift of spiritual awareness."
  • The leader of the Episcopal Church then says, "Paul can’t abide something he won’t see as beautiful or holy, so he tries to destroy it.  It gets him thrown in prison.  That’s pretty much where he’s put himself by his own refusal to recognize that she, too, shares in God’s nature, just as much as he does – maybe more so!,”

There is more said by the Presiding Episcopal Bishop so please read the above links.

As mentioned above, the ELCA is in full communion with the Episcopal Church.  The ELCA's official website explains what 'full communion' means. It says:

'Full communion' means a mutual recognition that the partner churches hold 'the essentials of the Christian faith' within the catholic and apostolic tradition. In such a relationship, according to 'Called to Common Mission,' neither church 'seeks to remake the other in its own image, but each is open to the gifts of the other as it seeks to be faithful to Christ and his mission. They are together committed to a visible unity in the church's mission to proclaim the Word and administer the Sacraments' ('Called to Common Mission,' paragraph 2).

Full communion describes a relationship in which the partner churches fully recognize each other as part of the whole Church of Jesus Christ and seek to cooperate with each other in witness, life, and service. Mutual recognition of Baptism and a sharing of the Lord's Supper, allowing for joint worship and an exchangeability of members, also are part of a relationship of full communion." (see here)

National Coverage Over ELCA Professor's Claim Jesus was a Muslim

7/11/2012

Luther College (ELCA) is getting some national attention.  Attention that no doubt it wishes would go away fast.  Of course that is what happens when a Christian college allows foolishness to be taught, insanity to prevail and heresy to be go unchecked in a school which garners students and financial gifts based on its Christian-faith affiliation.  World Net Daily is the high traffic internet news website which published a story about Luther College's Robert F. Shedinger, an Associate Professor of Religion and Department Head at Luther, who wrote the book, Was Jesus a Muslim?

"Christian prof says Jesus was Muslim" - World Net Daily - read here.  This article, published only 4 hours ago has already amassed 462 comments.

Internet news website The Blaze wrote an article titled "‘Jesus Was a Muslim’: Religion Professor Makes Unbelievable Argument" - read here.

Also published today, about Luther Professor Shedinger, is an article on the website Campus Reform - read here.

Finally, an article I wrote two months ago
on Professor Shedinger and his book on the website Exposing the ELCA - read here.

(Update: Thanks to the wonders of the internet the Dig Deeper section of the ELCA's webpage, that they remove, has been saved for all to see. Here is the main page in their Dig Deeper section - https://web.archive.org/web/20101030072822/http://www.elca.org/What-We-Believe/New-or-Returning-to-Church/Dig-Deeper.aspx
And here is a blog detailing some very troubling claims and teachings that the ELCA's Dig Deeper section revealed. And it includes the working links to the sections listed below. - http://www.exposingtheelca.com/exposed-blog/read-the-elca-articles-that-caused-a-huge-uproar )

The ELCA recently removed their heresy filled 'Dig Deeper' pages from its website.  (read about it here)  But they can still be viewed by using google's "cache."  I don't know how long they will be listed there so I advise you to save them to your computer if you need them for any reason.  Here are a number of the more troubling pages.

Virgin Birth

The Resurrection

Salvation

The Bible

"Then he (Joshua) took a large stone and set it up there under the oak near the holy place of the LORD.

'See!' he said to all the people. 'This stone will be a witness against us. It has heard all the words the LORD has said to us. It will be a witness against you if you are untrue to your God.'
    Joshua 24:26-27
